This event will be held in the Pub from 7 to 9 p.m. Contestants should check in no later than 6:45 p.m. Please bring your friends and family!
Imagine that you have just entered an elevator with Bill and Melinda Gates, who have enough money to fund any research project (and do in many different disciplines). They smile, say hello, and ask “why are you here this evening?” They are now your captive audience for this short elevator ride on your way to the 2017 ACSC. You have only one chance to make your “pitch” and get your project funded to be a hero to your faculty mentor … in your major … in your department … in your division … to earn the adoration of Dr. Hass … to be the most awesome person on campus forever … okay well, at least to be able to guarantee that your research project continues and that many other AC students have the opportunity and the experience that you did. What would you do with that one opportunity of a lifetime?
Hey, you never know … it could happen, right? You must be prepared to present the key aspects of your research in 1 minute or less. In order to get their attention (and keep it), you must present your work in an engaging way. It is important that you not only display your passion and excitement but also get across your key message and the importance of your work. It needs to be both professional and entertaining. You want to be memorable, so they know who to write that check out to later.
Your “elevator speech” will be performed on stage in the Pub and evaluated by our panel of “celebrity” judges. Your performance will be judged on precision, impact, and how memorable you were. In other words, how do you use your time (1-minute maximum before the elevator doors close), how interesting and engaging are you, and how much do we remember you after exiting the elevator. Contestants will be ranked by our judges and prizes will be awarded.
Are you up for the challenge? If so … Enter the 2017 ACSC Elevator Speech Contest!!!
