The Chi Chi chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society, received its charter at Austin College in 1999. Founded in 1920 at the University of Texas, Pi Sigma Alpha recognizes the outstanding academic achievements of students within the discipline of Political Science. There are more than 500 chapters established in colleges and universities in the United States. Requirements for membership at Austin College include completion of at least five Political Science courses, a GPA of 3.0 or above within the major, and an overall academic standing in the upper third of the college class.
In recent years, the Austin College Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha has sponsored numerous campus-wide speakers, student paper competitions, and will publish an Undergraduate Political Science Journal in Spring 2005 through Chapter Activity Grants from the National Office of Pi Sigma Alpha. In addition, the Chi Chi Chapter was named “Best Chapter with Student Enrollment Under 6,000” for 2003 by the National Office.
