Kevin Simmons, Austin College professor of economics and a nationally recognized expert on disaster economics, is quoted in Politico Magazine today regarding the economic toll of Hurricane Harvey, which he estimates will “likely exceed Katrina,” previously the most expensive disaster in U.S. history according to the magazine story.
Simmons, who has been a member of the Austin College faculty since 2003, holds the Clara R. and Leo F. Corrigan Sr. Chair in Business Administration and Economics.
As the flood waters continued to rise in south Texas, Simmons’ expertise was sought out by other media outlets, including the Wall Street Journal, insurance industry publications. He also wrote an editorial published in The Dallas Morning News.
