The Austin College community is saddened to learn of the death of senior trustee Robert Carsner. The San Angelo physician died December 22, 2017, in Austin, Texas.
Robert served actively on the College’s Board of Trustees from 1993 to 2005, serving on the Student Affairs Committee and the Church Relations Committee. He remained a member of the senior board until his death.
A 1957 graduate of Austin College, Robert earned his medical degree at University of Texas Medical Branch–Galveston. He completed a surgery internship in Galveston and residency at the University of Arkansas Medical Center in Little Rock.
Robert continued his career as an internal medicine physician in San Angelo, moving there with his wife, Elsa Lu Mickle Carsner, (Austin College Class of 1958) and family in 1966. He was active in his community, having served as a board member of the San Angelo ISD, the San Angelo Symphony, the YMCA, and Rio Concho Manor. He also served as the team physician for the Central High Bobcat football team for 21 years. An active Presbyterian, he was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder, deacon, and member of the Chancel choir.
He and Elsa were married for 53 years prior to her death in September 2012. The couple had three children.
