Faculty Bio:

I am the Guy M. Bryan Professor of History. I received a Ph.D. in History from Tulane University and have been a Fulbright Scholar to Spain, currently belonging to the Texas Institute of Letters and the Philosophical Society of Texas. I am also a lifetime Fellow of the Texas State Historian Association and a member of the Company of Fellows of the Louisiana Historical Association. I was named a Minnie Stevens Piper Professor in 2006. I am the author or editor of over a dozen academic books and scholarly articles along with two best-selling college textbooks, popular-oriented essays, and numerous book reviews. From 20019 to 2013 I served as the official historian of the State of Texas.
