The Austin College community is extremely saddened today to learn of the death overnight of junior Patrick “PJ” Johnson of Lufkin, Texas, following a single vehicle accident in Sherman. A graduate of Diboll High School, PJ was a leader on the Austin College men’s basketball team. He is the son of Patricia Johnson of Lufkin, Texas.
“I extend the condolences of the entire Austin College community to the family of Patrick Johnson and offer our thoughts and prayers to them at this time,” said Austin College president Steven P. O’Day. “We are all deeply saddened by the tragic loss and will comfort and support one another on campus in this time.”
Athletic Director David Norman said Patrick was a shining light on the campus and that the thoughts and prayers of the entire Athletic Department are with PJ’s family. Men’s basketball coach Rodney Wecker met with his team this morning regarding the tragic loss.
