Each December, Austin College presents a Service of Lessons & Carols to celebrate the Christmas season. The service, led by College Chaplain Dr. John Williams, is traditionally practiced by the Presbyterian church and is adapted from the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols that has been celebrated annually at King’s College, Cambridge, for almost a century.
In 2020, due to Covid-19 restrictions, the service will be recorded and streamed on Thursday, December 3, at 7 p.m. CST via the official Austin College Facebook and YouTube accounts. Austin College students, faculty, and staff will serve as readers of the nine Scripture lessons while the carols and sacred music accompanying each passage will be performed by the A Cappella Choir, under the direction of Dr. Wayne Crannell. Dr. Lisa Thomas, the College organist, also will play. See the 2020 Lessons & Carols Order of Service.
