Throughout Jan Term 2021, the First-Year Experience will provide opportunities for first-year students to further engage with campus and get to know other students. All of the events are listed below--click on each event to learn more! We look forward to seeing you!
2 p.m. on Zoom
Austin College is a small community and there are plenty of amazing people with incredible talents in your AC “neighborhood.”
Each episode of People in Our Neighborhood: After School Edition will feature an Austin College “celebrity” teaching participants how to do something within their realm of expertise. And you’re invited to learn alongside us!
The first episode will feature Austin College’s First Lady, Cece O’Day, who will be teaching us how to make apple crisp & haystack cookies. We’ll be meeting on Zoom on Saturday, January 9 from 2-3 p.m. If you’d like to join, we ask that you register in advance.
After registering, you’ll receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the Zoom meeting along with an ingredient list so you can be prepared to cook along with us! We hope you’ll consider joining us for this exciting new event!
Zoom Session
There are nearly FORTY different academic programs at Austin College that offer classes, majors, and minors. It’s a lot to ask you to read all about each program in the AC Bulletin, so in this event we’ll bring the Bulletin to life!
Sign up to attend 30-minute informational sessions with various academic programs you’d like to learn more about. Each session will be held on Zoom and will feature a faculty member telling you more:
- What is the program all about?
- Who teaches in the program?
- What topics are covered in classes for non-majors?
- What are classes like?
- What kinds of assignments do students do?
Join us to learn more and expand your horizons as you get inspired for classes you can take in the future.
Students who attend at least one session on each of the 3 days of the event will be entered to win Hopper Dollars!
4:30 p.m. in the Nation Theatre
Students who are switching from remote to in-person learning are required to attend this session with Dr. Saritha Bangara & the Public Health Ambassadors to learn about COVID safety protocols on campus. All students are welcome to attend if they’d like a refresher!
7 p.m. in the WCC Living Room
It’s hard to make friends in Zoom classes and socially distanced dorms, so here’s your opportunity to spend time with fellow ‘roos! Join us IN PERSON in the WCC to hang out with fellow first-year students.
7-9 p.m. on Zoom
There are thousands of Austin College ‘roos all over the world, and this is your opportunity to get to know them!
Join us for the Alumni Connections event and meet with Austin College alumni to learn more about how their Austin College education helped prepare them for their eventual careers!
What are your Career Interests? Fill out this form to tell us about your career interests and we’ll do our best to pair you with alumni who are currently working in career fields you want to learn more about!
