25 Years: Fall of the Berlin Wall
Campus Weeks
The Austin College German Program is happy to announce that Austin College was chosen by the German Embassy in Washington D.C. to be a project partner and to receive funding for Campus Weeks in the fall of 2014. The topic will be 25 Years Fall of the Berlin Wall.
The 25 Years Fall of the Berlin Wall campaign commemorates the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall on November 9, 1989, which marked a new era in German history. As a former symbol of repression, the fall of the Berlin Wall has become an icon of freedom and peaceful revolution.
The German Embassy’s 25 Years Fall of the Berlin Wall website describes this year’s campaign as an attempt not only to celebrate the fall of the wall, but also to reflect on a formerly divided Germany. The historical event of the fall of the wall will be remembered through numerous cultural events on campus, headed by faculty and students from various disciplines, including art, music, and theatre; there will be a campus essay contest, a photo contest, a celebration of German food, a bilingual reading, and more. Competitions will have cash prizes for first, second, and third place contest winners, selected by a jury of faculty from various campus disciplines.
Upcoming deadlines and events will be announced on this website, as details are available.
