Economics & Business Administration

Through six innovative programs, students learn cutting-edge business practices and classic economic theories through small classes that incubate discussion, undergraduate research, and experiential learning. Austin College connects students with professional internships and opportunities at top corporations, small businesses, non-profits, and government agencies. Students launch careers with the critical thinking, quantitative analysis, collaborative innovation, communication, and problem-solving skills needed to thrive in a competitive and rapidly changing world.

Student-Managed Investment Fund

Should I buy? Should I sell? Students act as business managers, apply risk management theories, and execute trades in an unstable market with a real one-million-dollar portfolio under the supervision of faculty and expert advisors.

Product Lab

Engaging and hands-on, the Product Lab invests interest in developing and pitching ideas to potential customers. The lab includes designing and delivering physical products – giving each student the chance to build a portfolio of practical skills and applied experience.

Austin College students support the RISE Challenge program in Sherman. The program, sponsored by Sherman Economic Development Corporation in partnership with Austin College and Grayson Small Business Development Center, awards $250,000 annually to new entrepreneurial businesses.

 

IntalyticsIntalytics Challenge

To provide our students with real world experience in the field of data analytics, Austin College has partnered with Intalytics, a data analytics firm based in Ann Arbor, MI with their modeling team in Dallas. Students learn various regression models useful for predicting outcomes then use this knowledge with actual client data from Intalytics. Teams compete to estimate the most accurate model for their client with executives from Intalytics as the judge.

 

Economic Scholars ProgramEconomic Scholars Program

In 2007, Austin College began a partnership with the Dallas Federal Reserve Bank to conduct a nationwide research conference for students in economics and finance. This conference is now the largest conference for undergraduates in the country annually attracting over 200 students. Students present their original research in a professional conference format including discussants and audience at the Dallas Fed.

Marketplace Live Simulation

Experiment with business strategies in an engaging game-like exercise! In the strategic management course, students build a business from the ground up, launch new products to the market and manage the entire product life cycle using a web-based large-scale, full-enterprise simulation interface.

 

Coca Cola, FedEx, Delta Airlines, Walmart, and IBM are examples of some of the large US corporations that have used or currently using the same simulation interface for their executive training programs. Students at Austin College learn business strategies using a training tool that is widely used in real-life corporate management training.

$8,400 Scholarship Expand

The Grace Collins and Will Collins Scholarship is $8,400 per year, awarded up to 4 students.

$1,100 scholarship Expand

The Thomas Edgar and Kathryn Heard Craig Fellowship is $1,100 per year awarded to a single student.

$500 to $3,000 scholarship Expand

The Daniel L. and Martha P. Nuckols Award is $500 to $3,000 per year awarded to a single student.

 

 

$4,000 scholarship Expand

The Will Mann Richardson Prize for Outstanding Scholarship and Service is $4,000 per year awarded to 2 or 3 students.
