The Music Program
Austin College offers a full major or minor in Music. There are also numerous opportunities for non-majors to participate in the same ensembles and take lessons from the same teachers as those students studying music as a career path.
Academic Tracks
Music majors choose one of three areas of emphasis and are guided by a personal mentor towards the coursework and experiences that match up with future plans.
Performance - This track offers an emphasis in preparation for graduate study and/or other careers in music making and private teaching.
Music Education - Working in tandem with Austin College's widely respected Masters of Teaching, students are guided through coursework concentrating on developing a personal teaching pedagogy in multiple areas.
Theory / Composition - Students pursuing the Theory/Composition track first concentrate on a major instrument. Once accepted into the program after the sophomore year, specialized classes and composition lessons culminate in a senior recital consisting of original compositions.
Or customize your music study in preparation for careers or graduate work in Music Therapy, Music Business, Musicology, or Arts Management, to name a few areas.
