Art scholarships are awarded to students with talents in studio art, who may or may not intend a major or minor in art. A limited number of awards are available each year and may amount up to $4,000 annually for each recipient. Recipients are required to maintain satisfactory participation in at least one art or art history course each year that they receive the award and must remain full-time students in good academic standing. Additionally, recipients are required to submit work to the annual end of year student art exhibit.
Basis for Consideration for Awards in Art
- Completed application including two letters of recommendation that address the applicant’s work/talent in art
- Evidence of academic achievement
- Résumé detailing art experience and study
- Portfolio of recent work
- A statement of artistic goals and interests (one page or less)
How to Apply
- Applicants for institutional scholarships must submit their general admission application by the Early Action II deadline: February 1.
- Complete the Art Scholarship Application and submit it by February 1 to:

- Submit a portfolio of recent work. Portfolios should be submitted by emailing a PowerPoint presentation (files must be smaller than 25 MB) or a link to a webpage to Sheila Weaver. Alternatively, a USB drive or CD of .jpg images can be mailed. Each image should be named with the title and medium of the artwork, for example “Self Portrait_Graphite on paper,” or “Untitled_Acrylic on Canvas.”
- Submit a short statement of your artistic goals and interests. Statements should be one page or less.
Art Scholarship Application
Austin College reserves the right to change on an annual basis the types, number, criteria, or values of scholarships. In addition to the General Academic Scholarships awarded each year, Austin College has a limited number of institutional scholarships that require separate applications or nominations. A new student may apply for an unlimited number of institutional scholarships. However, a student may receive only one institutional award in addition to the general academic scholarship. For a student receiving financial assistance, a merit-based award may replace in whole or in part a need-based grant or loan.
