Austin College Music Department faculty Cathy Richardson, violin, and Ricky Duhaime, clarinet, will be joined by colleagues Barbara Case, piano, and Lorna Case, mezzo-soprano, for two performances of A Recital of Two Melodic Masters: Franz Schubert and Gian Carlo Menotti.
Along with other works, the recital includes two notable trios, Schubert’s “Der Hirt auf dem Felson” (The Shepherd on the Rock) for soprano, clarinet, and piano, and Menotti’s “Trio for Clarinet, Violin, and Piano.”
The first performance is February 11 at 5 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sherman. Trinity Lutheran is located at 1515 N. Travis St.
The second performance will be February 19 at 3 p.m. in the Clifford J. Grum Sanctuary in Wynne Chapel on the Austin College campus at 900 N. Grand Avenue. Both performances are free of charge and open to the public. Audience members are invited to a reception in the Sallie Majors Chapel after the February 19th performance.
Schubert (1797-1829) and Menotti (1911-2007) were separated by nearly a century in time and an ocean in space, and both showed great talent at a young age. The chosen recital pieces will demonstrate their shared melodic language and expressive philosophy.
