Description: This beginning ballet class explores the world of ballet through history, practice, film, performance, music, gender, race, popular culture, language, and fashion. In this course, we will learn ballet fundamentals such as dance positions and beginner barre exercises, as well as engage in wide-ranging conversations about the history, cultural contexts, stereotypes, and lore surrounding this art form through lectures, readings, and discussions. No previous experience with ballet is required for this class; in fact, you may only take this class if you do not have previous ballet experience.
