My name is Cameron Kubacki and I am currently teaching English at a Gesamtschule thirty minutes outside of the German city of Hannover. I am currently living and working abroad this year, through a Fulbright Scholarship that I applied for my senior year. I studied business in college, a subject I not only enjoy but also a field that everyone tells you opens doors and provides you with opportunities. In reality my German degree and my study of the German language has provided more opportunities than I had ever imagined
I started studying German in high school, but never took it too seriously. In college I decided to continue pursuing German and went on to live in the Jordan Family Language house my sophomore year. In 2014 I also studied at the University of Munich through the JYM program my entire junior year of college. This experience was eye opening and easily one of the best years I have spent. Were it not for the faculty in the German department I also would have never known about the possibility to study in Munich and I would have had no idea what a Fulbright was.
Although I have only been teaching in Germany a short while, I have discovered that I really enjoy teaching! I never imagined I would ever be a teacher but as I spend my time here it makes me think about the future and all the options I have to choose from going forward. Overall my study of German has rewarded me with the opportunities to meet new people, travel to new places and discover new opinions. My time at AC studying German even allows me the opportunity to share my language while continuing to develop my skills in the German language. Going forward I am thinking about applying for an extended Fulbright that would allow me another year teaching here in Germany. At minimum I have discovered a passion for teaching and would like to teach in some capacity later in my life.
