Your Residence Life Community

First-year Housing

At Austin College, part of the learning experience includes learning to function within a community. All first-year students are required to live in a traditional residence hall and have a roommate. All first-year students living in residence halls receive a 7-day meal plan contract.

Fall New Student Housing Timeline

Place your deposit
Complete the Housing Contract and MBTI Survey by May 15
Request specific roommate pairings by May 15 through Student Life
Housing and roommate pairings are emailed by June 15
Plan to attend Room Preview to meet your roommate and see your room.

For students starting in the spring semester, you will receive your customized timeline from your transfer admission counselor.

Upper-Class Housing

After your first year, you can choose from a variety of on-campus housing options, including the traditional residential halls, Roo Suites, and the Flats apartment-style housing. The Cottages, typically reserved for seniors and a few juniors, offer a townhome-style housing option on campus. For upper-class students living on campus there are options for 7-day or 5-day meal plan contracts, or to purchase a block of meals for use, depending on your housing selection. Commuter meal plans are also available for students living at home.

Roommate Match

At Austin College, part of the learning experience includes learning to function within a community. First-year students are required to live in a traditional residence hall and have a roommate.

Students may request a specific roommate, or more commonly one will be assigned by the residence life staff. New student roommate matches are made using lifestyle questions and the Myers-Briggs personality type indicator to assess compatibility. Incoming students will complete an electronic housing application, meal plan agreement, and the Myers-Briggs personality type indicator once their matriculation deposits are received by the Office of Admission.

Roommate requests must be submitted by May 15, and notification of roommate assignments generally occurs by the end of June. Questions about the assignment of rooms or roommates? Contact the Dean of Student Life.

Cluster System

First-year students are assigned to exclusive first-year communities called “clusters.” Each cluster has a resident assistant (RA) who is specially trained to foster an atmosphere of community and provide a positive living and learning environment. By designating first-year students to clusters, the College is able to connect these students with resources to help them make a great start at Austin College. Benefits of living in a cluster include:

Cluster rooms are specifically designated to maximize participation and connections among first-year students.
First-year students will only be assigned to other first-year students as roommates to help build a support network that will last all four years.
Living with fellow first-years allows students to improve skills in communication, idea sharing, and collaboration that will enrich the overall college experience.

Important Residence Life Dates

Residence halls and the Jordan Family Language House are closed during the periods listed below.

Students must vacate their rooms during these breaks, but do not need to move out their belongings until the end of the academic year in May. Students living in ’Roo Suites, flats, and cottages are not required to vacate their rooms during breaks.

Thanksgiving Break 2024

The college will close for the Thanksgiving Break starting at 5 PM on Friday, November 22. Students will not be allowed to return to their rooms until Noon on Sunday, December 1.

Winter Break 2024/2025

The college will close for the Winter Holiday starting at 5 PM on Friday, December 13. Students will not be allowed to return to their rooms until Noon on Wednesday, January 1.

Spring Break 2025

The college will close for Spring Break starting at 5 PM on Friday, March 7. Students will not be allowed to return to their rooms until Noon on Sunday, March 16.

End of Year Move-Out

All students living on campus must be moved out completely by 5 PM on Wednesday, May 14, 205.
Students requesting an extension, including graduating Seniors, must complete Extension Request Form, available in the MyAC (Student Portal), by Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at Noon.
