The Mall

"The Mall" is the main area on campus where you’ll often see friends and classmates on your way to classes or meetings. It’s not always busy; between classes and activities, students relax in the red Adirondack chairs and enjoy some peace and quiet.

Solstice Calendar

Solstice Calendar

Solstice Rock: a signature landmark on campus and the quintessential metaphor for the importance of studying liberal arts at Austin College.  The sculpture combines art and science, constructed of three pieces of Texas pink granite, a scientific instrument marking each season's solstice with a shadow falling over metal bars that are part of the sculpture.

Campus Traditions

There are many traditions at Austin College but the one with the most to celebrate is Commencement. 98% of May 2023 graduates completed their undergraduate studies in four years or less.  After walking across the stage, they start making their impact on the world as they head to medical, law, and other graduate programs, entering the financial, non-profit, political and many more sectors.

Local Eats

Venturing off-campus to get something to eat? You can find everything you need to get you through the week on campus, but here are some local favorites to try when your family is visiting, you have a date, or just want to go exploring! For breakfast (including great coffee!) try CJ’s Coffee Café, The White Rabbit, Dutch Bros. Coffee, Sweetberries, or Eggsquisite Café. If you wake up too late for breakfast, head to Sage Café, Hau’oli Poke, City Limits, Chick-fil-A, Raising Cane’s, or Chipotle for lunch. La Placita Salvadorean Cocina, Crazy Thai, Cackle & Oink BBQ, Cellarman’s, or Huck’s Catfish are great places to have dinner.

Shopping in Town Center

You can find everything you need in the Sherman Town Center. Looking for clothes? Visit TJ Maxx, Old Navy, JCPenney, or Kohls. Need a sweet treat? Try Crumbl Cookies or Nothing Bundt Cakes. And for everything in between, we have Target and WalMart, all in one easy-to-find shopping area.

Lake Campus

Sitting just 25 minute drive from campus, The Robbie Kubela Rogers Lake Campus is located on the Preston Peninsula at Lake Texoma. The Lake Campus is open for all Austin College Community members for recreational activities, retreats, meetings, and camping. Parks & Nature

If you need to stretch your legs and clear your mind after a long week of studying, we’ve got great places to do just that. There’s something nearby for everyone! Play pickleball on the Pickleball Courts at Fairview Park, disc golf at the Pecan Grove Disc Golf Course, or tennis at Fairview Park, which is also the home of the Sherman Shadowcats Minor League Baseball team; or if you find your peace in nature, visit Binkley Park & Mountain Bike Trail, Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge, Loy Lake Park, Lake Texoma, or Herman Baker Park.
