Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival (中秋节) is a harvest festival of the Chinese tradition. Austin College students enrolled in Chinese learned about this festival and were given the task of creating a culturally responsible celebration and with the help of an alum they were able to make the festival a way to give back to the community through a food drive. Alum, Madison Messinger ’14, is the Child Programs Team Lead at the North Texas Food Bank worked with the Asian Students Association and CAB to do a celebration that happened last Friday. The celebration of the festival had over 100 people in attendance, where they were taught calligraphy, could decorate their own lanterns, and listened to a presentation on the significance of the Mid-Autumn festival.
