Community
Austin College is proud to be a cornerstone of the Sherman, Denison, and larger Grayson County community.
With over 175 years in Texas (the oldest college still operating under original name and charter!), and almost 150 years in Sherman, the College and the surrounding area have grown up side by side. Just like an old friend, Austin College has always been ready to open its doors warmly to the local community. Whether you’re visiting, attending a lecture, making use of our facilities, or getting involved in campus life, we welcome you to come and be a part of our vibrant community.
With an historic "town & gown" connection that still runs deep, the College serves as a major economic engine in Grayson County, contributing $83 million annually to the local economy. Our faculty, staff, students, and alumni live, work, serve, and play across the Texoma region, contributing to a dynamic relationship between the city and the college that significantly impacts both.

Campus Visitor Information
Due to TxDOT construction on U.S. Hwy 75 and U.S. Hwy 82 in Sherman, routes to campus change frequently. Please allow extra travel time and route your GPS directly to the physical address of the building you are visiting. Common destinations include:
- Wortham Welcome Center at 718 N. Grand Ave. and
- Wright Campus Center at 1201 E. Brockett Street.
Exits change frequently as highway construction progresses, so be sure to look for the exit signs for Houston/Lamar (Downtown) or for Hwy 91 (Texoma Parkway) – which may come sooner than you are expecting!
*Inclement Weather Directions: In the event of ice or snow, the Grand Avenue overpass is sometimes closed. As an alternate route, navigate to the college via the Brockett street entrance.
There are several hotel options in the area, with many offering a discount for visiting Austin College.
