Faculty: Mark Hebert
Description: The goal of this course is to help you begin the lifelong process of designing your life. WARNING: You will not, at the end of this course, have a “design” for the rest of your life, because designs evolve. A wise designer knows that the first design – the prototype – will inevitably fail, and is thus neither surprised nor disheartened when this happens. Hence the first thing to know about this course is that it is introducing you to a process, not a product. We will use Bill Burnett and Dave Evans book “Designing Your Life” as a starting point. We’ll introduce you to PathwayU, an online tool that helps you gather information about various careers (none of which you are in a position to choose, but about which you can gather information and begin exploring). We will look at philosophical ideas about happiness, meaning, and how those figure in a well-designed life.
