2024 First Decade Award
Suzanne Timmerman is employed with the U.S. Department of State as an Office Management Specialist. She is currently posted in the Regional Security Office in the U.S. Embassy in Barbados, the Eastern Caribbean, and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States. Her previous postings include the U.S. Embassies in Beijing, China and Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo. She also spent a year in Greece as a Recent Graduate Student Services Fellow, and a year and a half as a substitute teacher at the American School of Kinshasa. She speaks English, French, and Mandarin.
Suzanne has received several group and individual honor awards from the U.S. Embassy for her work on the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility Council, with the DipNotes Choir, with Public Diplomacy in support of Ukraine, and for filling in at the Executive Office.
Suzanne’s home base is Fort Worth, Texas, though she spends most of her time at her post in Barbados with her husband Nicholas Timmerman, also an Austin College alumnus from the Class of 2011, and their son, Jack.
