Writer, professional resumes and fantasy fiction
“I’ve dedicated my writing to creating stories that empower people who have been historically underrepresented in the fantasy genre. The fictional world I’m building includes magic, dragons, and knights, but the core message is about self-acceptance—and accepting people from other cultures. My goal is to create characters who are both entertaining and relatable in terms of race, gender, sexuality, and physical abilities, from a physician’s apprentice with magical migraines to a librarian who lost his hearing as a boy, and a queer woman seeking freedom for her people. As a resume writer, I often work with individuals who are facing major life changes…Everyone deserves the opportunity to find work that is enriching and aligned with their own interests and abilities.
In addition to the rigorous training in writing and analysis I received through the English department, Austin College opened my eyes to issues and ideas I hadn’t considered before. I learned how to think critically, look at problems and opinions from multiple perspectives, and embrace diversity. The technical aspect of my current work was gained after graduating, but Austin College laid the foundation for my ability to learn and my openness to new ideas.”
