Dr. Larry Driver ’76

2025 Distinguished Alumni Award

Dr. Larry Driver ’76 graduated from Austin College and earned his Doctor of Medicine degree at The University of Texas at San Antonio School of Medicine in 1980. His areas of clinical practice and expertise are cancer pain management and palliative care.

Larry has been Chair of MD Anderson Cancer Center’s Clinical Ethics Committee since 2001, served on a multitude of subcommittees, and spent five years studying bioethics as a visiting scholar at Georgetown University. He has been a member of the faculty for MD Anderson Cancer Center’s Division of Anesthesiology since 1999. His publications include over 100 research reports, articles, commentaries, and even poetry. He has co-authored or edited four books, with two more on the way. Recognized as a distinguished alumnus of his medical school in San Antonio, Larry frequently lectures at medical schools throughout the United States.
