Tom Vick ’77

2025 Distinguished Alumni Award

Tom Vick graduated from Austin College in 1977 with a degree in Economics and History. He is a partner in the law firm of 
Vick Carney Law in Weatherford, Texas, and has been practicing family law since his admittance to both the State Bar of Texas 
and U.S. Federal Courts Bar in 1981. 

Since the mid-1990s, he has shared his expertise through nearly 100 published works and educational courses presented to fellow attorneys during annual law institute gatherings as part of continuing legal education requirements. He also served as the Course Director for several such gatherings. Tom has demonstrated lifelong learning by participating in Harvard Law School’s Program on Negotiation in both 2017 and 2019.

Tom’s contributions to his field have been rightly recognized by his colleagues. Texas Monthly acknowledged him as a Super Lawyer.  The State Bar of Texas named him their Family Law Section’s Outstanding Family Lawyer for 2008, and awarded him the Presidential Citation for Service to the Bar in 2008 and 2012. Tom was the recipient of the Dan R. Price Award in 2008, and in 2009, he received the Texas Academy of Family Law Specialists Judge Sam Emison Award for Significant Contributions to the Practice of Family Law. He has been included in The Best Lawyers in America annually since 1993.  

Tom has served multiple professional associations as a member, fellow, or officer for over three decades, including president of the State Bar of Texas in 2017 and 2018. He has also served his community, first as Mayor of the city of Weatherford, Texas, and then as a Trustee of the Weatherford Independent School District.
