Forster Art Studio Complex

1315 E. Richards St.
Sherman, Texas 75090

The Betsy Dennis Forster Art Studio Complex provides a facility for teaching and learning within the visual arts. Located on the north end of campus, the building was made possible by a generous gift of $2 million from Peter and Betsy Forster of Washington, D.C. The complex is named for Betsy, a 1965 graduate of Austin College and an artist.

The 20,000-square-foot complex includes space for sculpture, painting, photography, and ceramics studios, as well as exhibit, office, and lecture space. It includes the James Binkley Drawing Studio; an art history lecture room provided by Carruth Foundation, Brown Foundation, and Beulah Kahler College Fund; the Caroline Ross Ceramic and Sculpture Building; the Wilma and Terence Dennis Gallery;  the seminar room provided the W.B. Munson and the Elias and Hannah Regensburger Foundation; the Daniel Ross Student Gallery; the Kellye Wright Samuelson Digital and Photographic Art Center; the Fundamentals Studio provided by Lee and Bob Ardell; and the Slide Library provided by the W.E. Wilcox Family. Landscaping includes the Trost Family Courtyard and the blue steel sculpture Pick-Up-Stix by Kirk Lipsitz ’18. The  complex offers flexible uses for both academic programs and public outreach, including exhibition opportunities for students, faculty, and visiting artists.
