Internship at the Ontario Fire Department

My responsibilities as an intern for the Ontario Fire Department included a staff study project including interviewing different department members and taking their input to design a state-of-the-art fire truck that can be used throughout the region, helping firemen on 911 emergency calls, helping fire inspectors conduct business life and safety inspections, and observing the dispatchers in the dispatch center and what their duties are. I was able to get a very through view of all aspects of the fire service and how all the different bureaus utilize teamwork to reach the end goal: serve and protect the City of Ontario's residents with courtesy, loyalty, and service.

On a personal level, the internship really helped to make my career choice clearer. There are many different bureaus within the fire department including fire suppression, fire investigation, fire administration, fire dispatch, EMS and fire inspection, and being able to see that I want to continue on the fire suppression side was very helpful for me.
