Description: “You must have chaos within you to give birth to a dancing star.” Friedrich Nietzsche Parents and relatives: “What are you going to major in at Austin College?” Me: “I don’t know yet!” .strange looks. There is an inherent desire in most individuals to have a set plan in place to land that perfect “JOB”. Guess what? There is no linear path to a perfect career or a fulfilling life; and a major or minor will not determine your life’s work. In the next few years that it takes you to graduate from Austin College there will be many new occupations created; and many will have become obsolete. You will be required to change, adapt, and learn in order to take on these new and exciting opportunities. How do you plan for these? This class will delve into Chaos Theory and the Theory of Happenstance to help you understand the difference between being “undecided” and being “open-minded”. You will be challenged to reflect on your life, to take risks and to wander curiously into new territories you’ve never explored. Are you ready? This January Term course will equip you with many tools to begin a successful internship search and ultimately, a full time job or application to graduate/professional schools!
