Description: In this course students will seek to develop a growth mindset as biology learners. Having a growth mindset allows students to focus on persistence and effort as strategies to improve their academic success in the biological sciences as well as other areas of academic study. Students will use case studies in cell/molecular biology, ecology, and evolution as the foundation to explore various disciplines in the study of biology and to relate the study of biology to their everyday lives. A goal of the course is for students to practice study skills, reading skills, and communication skills useful in the study of biology and other academic disciplines. Students will also consider and develop strategies for improved success as collaborative learners and leaders. This course is intended for all students who have an interest in the biological sciences and want to develop their academic skill set to increase their academic success in biology or their chosen field of study.

Section Requisites: This course is intended for students who have either some or no previous biology coursework and who wish to explore and/or prepare for studying biology. A particular emphasis will be placed on strengthening the academic skillset of students wishing to continue on to other biology courses. Instructor permission via e-mail required. Course fee: $50.
