Jessica Healy’s Sabbatical Lecture “Have Squirrels, Will Travel: Adventures in International Hibernation Research” will take place on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 in the Wright Campus Center. A reception will be held at 4:30 p.m. in the Johnson Gallery, with the lecture following at 5:00 p.m. in Mabee Hall.
My sabbatical had two main goals: the first to prepare and carry out with students a field research project measuring life history characteristics of thirteen-lined ground squirrels from Texas to Minnesota, and the second to prepare and submit a proposal to the National Science Foundation for a grant that would send AC students to Vienna, Austria to conduct summer research projects in hibernation biology. Pursuit of these goals took me from the Flint Hills of Kansas to the Austrian Alps in spring and summer 2019.
