The Philosophy, Politics & Economics program is designed to explore the boundaries and make connections across the disciplines of philosophy, political science and economics. While students with interest in these majors often select a second one of the fields for a major or minor, this program provides a structure and intentionality to exploring the questions central to the missions of the three fields.
Co-Directors:
Dr. Mark Hébert (Philosophy)
Dr. Audrey Flemming (Political Science)
Dr. Daniel Nuckols (Economics)
PPE was first offered at Oxford University in 1924 to educate the “next generation” of political leaders. Since then, the program and its goals have evolved as over 100 universities worldwide have instituted their own versions of the program.
At Austin College, PPE students have the advantage of studying depth, breadth, and intentionality in this program while bypassing the requirement of completing a minor. Specific course requirements are outlined below, culminating with a capstone experience in the senior year with a thematic independent study research project under faculty supervision.
For additional career opportunities, please see the lists offered by the individual majors.
