Austin College Celebrates Homecoming Weekend 2024
SHERMAN, TEXAS —Austin College brought together alumni, students, faculty, and staff for a vibrant 2024 Homecoming Weekend filled with tradition, camaraderie, and celebration.
The festivities began on Friday, November 15, 2024, with the Distinguished Alumni and Volunteer Awards Dinner, honoring outstanding members of the Austin College community. The celebrations continued through the weekend, culminating with the Homecoming Worship & Memorial Service, led by Rev. Dr. John Williams ’84, on Sunday morning.
Athletics enthusiasts enjoyed an exciting SCAC Volleyball Tournament hosted by Austin College in the Sid Richardson Center on Friday, where the Austin College Volleyball team advanced to the semifinals, showcasing their skill and determination.
Art lovers gathered at the Betty Dennis Forster Art Studio Complex for an alumni artist reception featuring Sway, a photography exhibit by Kristy Peet ’02. The exhibit remained open throughout the weekend, providing a cultural highlight for attendees.
The homecoming football game was a standout event, as Austin College defeated Lyon College in an exhilarating match. Before the game, the field was officially dedicated in honor of Bob ’53 and Joyce Johnson, who performed the ceremonial coin toss.
Half-time festivities were equally engaging, with the announcement of the Homecoming Court’s “High Court” honorees: Abigail Le ’25 and Tracee Tarleton ’26. Winners of the Carnival Booth, Banner Contest, and Homecoming Spirit Award were also recognized, with Theta Sigma Chi Sorority taking both the Carnival Booth and Spirit Award titles, and Zeta Chi Omega Sorority winning the Banner Contest. Entertainment included lively performances by the Aussies Dance Team and the Austin College Cheerleaders, energizing the crowd.
Overall, Austin College’s 2024 Homecoming Weekend was a celebration of community, achievement, and the enduring ’Roo spirit that unites alumni and current students alike.
