Pottsboro native Jeff Cordell ’91 has been named athletic director for Sherman ISD.

Sherman ISD announced Monday that Jeff Cordell ’91 is the new athletic director for the district. Most recently, Cordell served as athletic director of Crane ISD, a 3A school district located just south of Odessa. Cordell grew up in Grayson County and played football for Austin College from 1987 to 1991, where he was named the Kodak All-American Defensive Back and Most Valuable Player in 1991. He is also a member of the Austin College Hall of Honor.

The first-ever Austin College Summer Music Camp concluded with a recital by all 40 campers, 27 of whom were Sherman Bearcats. Organized by the Sherman Symphony Orchestra (SSO) and hosted by Austin College, the camp came from a vision shared by SSO Education Director Leslie Whelan and Alan Harkey, Austin College Director of Bands. The two wanted to offer a summer music camp experience like none other offered in the Texoma area where students could dive deep into their instruments without the day-to-day of school.
