Legacy | June 2024
The legendary Dr. Clyde Hall ’46 passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at the age of 101. Dr. Hall was a professor emeritus of business administration and economics, and lifelong Sherman resident. Dr. Hall earned his bachelor's degree from Austin College, and after earning his MBA and Ph.D., he returned to Sherman to join the faculty of Austin College, teaching from 1950 until his retirement in 1988. Dr. Hall remained deeply connected with the campus and community following his retirement, and has earned virtually every award granted by Austin College, including an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters in 2015. Dr. Hall has also had two spaces on campus—a computer lab in Abell Library and The Clyde L. Hall Graduation Court—named in his honor by the alumni who funded these projects.

Bradley Oh ’14 has been appointed as Head Coach over the football program for Texas Leadership Public Schools in San Angelo, Texas. He was a two-time team captain and named a Division III All-American offensive lineman during his time at Austin College, where he later served as an assistant coach.

The Austin College Athletics Department and the Alumni “A” Athletics Association Board inducted honorees into the Austin College Athletics Hall of Honor on Saturday, July 27 at the annual Legends Weekend event. Inductees included Al Hockaday '76, Andrea Coachman '06, Cody Fletcher Dean '24, Ned Munoz '93, Lauren Wheeler Hutton '16, Will Renfro '90, and Mike Foster '86. Marty Secord '85 was honored with the Coach Joe Spencer Lifetime Achievement Award.

Tony White, Head Football Coach at Austin College, announced he has hired Chad O’Melia and Bob Connelly to complete his coaching staff for the 2024 season. They will serve as the offensive coordinator and coach for the offensive line, respectively.

Lauren Olivier ’23 has been named Austin College’s new head swim coach for both the men’s and women’s teams. While earning her master’s degree, she assisted with the water polo team at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in addition to coaching for Racine United School District in Racine, Wisconsin.

Austin College hosted 94 middle and high school students from 14 school districts for Summer Music Camp in June. Austin College Summer Music Camp is operated in collaboration with the Sherman Symphony Orchestra, and provides musical development through chamber music, electives, and large ensembles.

Austin College welcomed the initial cohort of students to its Master of Medical Science-Physician Assistant program on Monday, June 3, 2024, at the College’s Health Campus. Over 1,200 applications were received to fill 34 spots in the program. Upon the students’ anticipated May 2026 graduation, they will be poised to work as physician assistants in outpatient and inpatient settings, as well as in emergency and operating rooms.

Austin College officials have announced the Dean’s List for Spring Term 2024. The Dean’s List recognizes the top 20 percent of students taking a minimum of three graded, full-credit courses. For Spring Term 2024, 199 individuals are recognized.

As a joint endeavor between the College and the Sherman Symphony Orchestra, ACSMC brings the experience and expertise of both entities to our students.”
