The panel, titled “Humanities Alumni Share their Career Path Stories,” explored how humanities degrees have benefited Austin College alumni Paola Maria Rheus ’20, Blaine Cowart ’10, Jake Tidwell ’21, and Zoe Rheus ’20 in their respective careers ranging across industry lines.

Austin College President Emeritus Oscar C. Page passed away peacefully Saturday morning, November 23, 2024, surrounded by his beloved wife, Anna Laura, and his family. Dr. Page, who had faced health challenges this fall, leaves behind a profound legacy as a leader, mentor, and cherished member of the Austin College community. A celebration of Dr. Page’s life will be held on Friday, January 3, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Austin College in Wynne Chapel.

Austin College students kicked off the holiday season with a mass volunteer event. Great Day of Service is an annual event where Austin College students dedicate their Saturday morning to volunteering at dozens of non-profits in the Sherman/Denison area. This event is organized by the Austin College “Service Station,” a student-led office that promotes the involvement of all Austin College students in volunteer and community service efforts.

Austin College rang in the 2024 holiday season with its Service of Lessons and Carols. The community joined students, faculty, and staff in the Wynne Chapel, Clifford J. Grum Sanctuary on Thursday, December 5, 2024, for this holiday event. The annual service, led by Chaplain Dr. John Williams ’84, includes Hebrew and Christian scriptures, carols, anthems, a candle-lighting ceremony, and performances by Austin College’s A Cappella Choir and Chamber Orchestra.

Austin College mourns the passing of Trustee Kristine Berry McKinney ’78, who passed away on November 16, 2024, at her home in Denison, Texas. Kris, a dedicated alumna and lifelong supporter of the College, served as a member of the Board of Trustees from July 1, 2023, until her death. A celebration of Kris’s life was held in Wynne Chapel at Austin College on Friday, December 6, 2024.

Tuongvy Ha ’25 was awarded the Jo Anne J. Trow Undergraduate Scholarship for the 2024-25 academic year by the Alpha Lambda Delta Board of Directors. Ha is one of only five national recipients of the largest Trow Scholarships offered and is the first Austin College recipient of any Alpha Lambda Delta (ALD) award.

Nick Denbo ’26 hosted the second annual Veterans Day roll call at Austin College. The names of 47 veterans with connections to the College community were read aloud by the two students.

The Austin College A Capella and Descant choirs hosted a Concert of Choral Music on Sunday, November 10, 2024, performing a wide variety of unaccompanied choral music from the 17th century to the present. The Austin College A Cappella Choir was founded in 1946 and modeled after the a cappella collegiate choirs first founded in the 1910s and 20s. It is made up of students studying in all fields with the majority planning careers in medicine, law, education, technology, and business.

Fulbright HSI Leaders demonstrate noteworthy support for Fulbright exchange participants and promote Fulbright program opportunities on campus.
