This course will introduce the major theoretical approaches to development. This will include reasons why some countries are developed while others lag behind, strategies for economic development and positive or negative effects of politics on such strategies. It will also discuss the international side of development, including institutions like International Monetary Fund, World Bank, and Asian Development Bank, and the peculiarities, benefits and criticisms of them. Finally, the course will end with discussions on poverty, inequality, and globalization.
