Expert on Capitalism Lectures on the Family and the Market

Austin College’s 2023 Will Mann Richardson Lecture will feature Dr. Jerry Muller on Thursday, March 30, 11 a.m. to noon, in Hoxie Thompson Auditorium in Sherman Hall.
Muller is professor emeritus of history at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., and his areas of expertise include modern European intellectual history and the history of capitalism. His books, articles, and research cover many historical and contemporary subjects including capitalism, nationalism, conservatism, the history of social, political, economic, and religious thought, and modern German and Jewish history.
His most recently published books are Professor of Apocalypse: The Many Lies of Jacob Taubes, Princeton University Press, 2022; and The Tyranny of Metrics, Princeton University Press, 2018.
In addition to his roles as professor, researcher and author, Muller has served for more than 20 years on the board of advisors for Critical Review: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Politics and Society and as advisory editor for Social Science and Modern Society.
Muller earned a bachelor’s degree at Brandeis University, a master’s degree at Columbia University, a Master of Philosophy degree, and a Ph.D. at Columbia University.
The Will Mann Richardson Lectureships and Seminars were endowed by gifts from Will Mann Richardson and his wife, Gertrude Anne Windsor Richardson; his mother-in-law, Gertrude Buckley Windsor; and his children, William Windsor Richardson, John Marshall Richardson, Gertrude Windsor Richardson, and James Windsor Richardson. The fund was established to bring outstanding individuals to campus to discuss pertinent issues in economics, philosophy, law, and government.
