The Fulbright Mission
The Fulbright Program aims to foster mutual understanding among nations through educational and cultural exchange. Sponsored by the United States Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the U.S. Student Program enables Americans to encounter a wide variety of different cultures, while developing international experience and building leadership skills. Each year the Fulbright Program provides funding for approximately 1,000 American students to study or conduct research in more than 140 nations.
How to Apply
For over fifty years, talented and motivated men and women have utilized Fulbright grants to conduct significant, career-launching international study.
The Fulbright Program welcomes applications from recent graduates, postgraduate candidates, and developing professionals and artists. Graduating seniors are encouraged to apply, as the Fulbright Program provides significant international experience that can have a major effect on early career development. Application information is available online. New applications for each year’s competition are available by May 1, and must be submitted to IIE by the annual October deadline.
Students currently enrolled at Austin College must apply through the campus Fulbright Program Advisor: Dr. Patrick Duffey.
The Fulbright Experience
As Fulbright grantees, students in a range of diverse fields undertake projects that prepare them to play an influential role in today’s global society and contribute to mutual understanding among cultures and nations.
The Fulbright Program offers an invaluable leadership development experience along with opportunities for intellectual, professional and artistic growth.
Fulbright students meet and work with the people of the host country, sharing daily life as well as professional and creative insight. This cultural immersion functions to increase the international skills and awareness of the grantee, while engaging members of the host community with Americans.
