1098-T Tuition Statement
The 1098-T Tuition Statements for each tax year are available on Self-Service at https://selfservice.austincollege.edu:8443/Student. This information relates to education credits for qualified tuition and related expenses.
Since the college does not bill tuition and fees per calendar year, your 1098-T may not look like you are expecting it to look. The amount on Form 1098-T might be different from what you paid. When figuring the deduction, use only the amounts you paid for qualified education expenses for the tax year in question.
Review your Student Account statements to help determine the qualifying charges. To view statements log onto your Self-Service Account and choose the Student Finance category. You will find a link to the Account Activity page on the right side of the screen. Use the drop down menu to choose which term based billing statement you want to generate and then click on View Statement.
Austin College reports Box 1 – Payments received for qualified tuition and related expenses. We do not report Box 2. Box 1 amounts are capped at the qualified tuition and related expense amount for this calendar year plus any carryover from the prior year.
We recommend that you review IRS Publication 970, Tax Benefits for Education; and IRS Form 8863, Education Credits, to assist you when completing your tax return. You may obtain these publications from an IRS Office near you or download the information at http://www.irs.gov. Due to the complex nature of these tax regulations, you should contact your tax consultant with specific tax questions.
While Austin College staff will not be able to answer specific tax questions, the Business Office will be happy to answer any questions you may have regarding the transactions between you and Austin College. Please direct those questions to businessoff@austincollege.edu.
