Campus Weeks
The Austin College German Program has received a generous grant by the German Embassy in Washington D.C. to conduct Campus Weeks in the fall of 2012 on the topic of Think Transatlantic: United States and Germany in the 21st Century.
The German Program and German Club of Austin College are happy to announce that Austin College was chosen by the German Embassy in Washington D.C. to be a project partner and to receive funding for Campus Weeks in the fall of 2012. The topic will be “Think Transatlantic: United States and Germany in the 21st Century.”
The United States and Germany are two of the world’s strongest democracies and leading economies in the 21st century, and they share many values. In this campaign, students at 25 colleges and universities across the nation will discuss the current state and possible future roles of the relationship between the United States and Germany. They will examine topics like the importance of the transatlantic partnership, strategic alliance, and mutual values. At the same time, this campaign aims at highlighting some of Germany’s cultural characteristics.
This is an interdisciplinary event. Faculty and students across disciplines are invited to actively help shape and participate in the campus weeks. The goal is that through different projects, competitions, and activities participating students will learn about German culture and society and illustrate the idea of transatlantic partnership and mutual values between the U.S. and Germany. There will be prizes for winners in various competitions. The campus winner of the essay competition will be invited to join a national conference in Washington, D.C. early in 2013, where the national champions will be selected by a jury and awarded attractive prizes, including trips to Berlin. The German Embassy will cover travel and accommodation for campus winners.
