About Student Success
Where to Begin
At the Academic Skills Center, peer tutors are here to offer free help with content-specific tutoring. They can help you improve your writing, prepare for exams, and sharpen your study skills, organization, time management and note-taking. The ASC Director meets individually with students to identify strategies that address specific learning needs.
The Center for Career & Professional Development offers a wide range of services at no cost and encourages students to begin their career/life planning process in their first year of college, continuing over the course of their academic careers. Upon graduation, they will emerge with the requisite career and life planning skills, prepared to implement their educational experiences in the professional world.
Counseling Services is available to assist in your mental and psychological well-being. They provide a safe space for free, short-term counseling to address any of your personal and emotional concerns and offer programs throughout the year focusing on mental health issues.
Student Health Services is here to make sure you are feeling physically healthy during your time at Austin College. They assist you with medical treatment and will connect you with other resources in the local Sherman area as needed.
The mission of the health sciences program is to educate students about different career opportunities in healthcare and assist them in the application and interview process for professional schools. The program focuses on providing students with a solid background in the sciences, while placing this background in the context of a broad liberal arts education.
At the Scarbrough Writing Center, you will work one-on-one with a trained writing assistant to develop strategies and confidence in your writing. Their goal is to make all types of writing (lab reports, personal statements, honors theses, research papers, and more) less intimidating for students. Schedule free writing sessions with a qualified peer writing assistant to help you at any stage of the writing process!
