About Us Expand

The office of Student Success offers resources and services to help you be successful on your journey towards graduation and your life beyond.  We do this by collaborating with faculty and college offices to provide programs and services that support your academic growth and personal development.

Planning for Success Expand

You define success in your own way.  We define success by when you stay engaged on your path to obtaining your degree and achieving your self-identified goals.  We also define success by when you are ready to apply what you’ve learned to your life and career after graduation.  We work one-on-one with you to help you develop your personal success plan and connect you to the resources that will help remove barriers.

Referral Program Expand

The office of Student Success collaborates with your instructors and mentors to connect you to resources that will help you meet and overcome academic challenges.  This collaboration includes an early alert referral program designed to provide you with resources and support that can enhance or develop your academic and organizational skills.

Academic Skills Center

At the Academic Skills Center, peer tutors are here to offer free help with content-specific tutoring. They can help you improve your writing, prepare for exams, and sharpen your study skills, organization, time management and note-taking. The ASC Director meets individually with students to identify strategies that address specific learning needs.

Center for Career & Professional Development

The Center for Career & Professional Development offers a wide range of services at no cost and encourages students to begin their career/life planning process in their first year of college, continuing over the course of their academic careers. Upon graduation, they will emerge with the requisite career and life planning skills, prepared to implement their educational experiences in the professional world.

Counseling Services

Counseling Services is available to assist in your mental and psychological well-being. They provide a safe space for free, short-term counseling to address any of your personal and emotional concerns and offer programs throughout the year focusing on mental health issues.

Health Services

Student Health Services is here to make sure you are feeling physically healthy during your time at Austin College. They assist you with medical treatment and will connect you with other resources in the local Sherman area as needed.

Health Sciences Advising

The mission of the health sciences program is to educate students about different career opportunities in healthcare and assist them in the application and interview process for professional schools. The program focuses on providing students with a solid background in the sciences, while placing this background in the context of a broad liberal arts education.

Scarbrough Writing Center

At the Scarbrough Writing Center, you will work one-on-one with a trained writing assistant to develop strategies and confidence in your writing. Their goal is to make all types of writing (lab reports, personal statements, honors theses, research papers, and more) less intimidating for students. Schedule free writing sessions with a qualified peer writing assistant to help you at any stage of the writing process!
