ATP Intern Program Verification & Expectations for Principals

As a current graduate student in the Austin Teacher Program, there are certain expectations your intern needs to be present for/complete in order to prepare and be able to apply for a standard certificate. Please read and digitally sign this form to acknowledge that you understand and agree to the following terms. All fields are required.

1. The intern must teach in their certification field per TEA requirements for at least 60% or more of each day. (For example: might include one period of coaching or duties such as study hall.)*

2. The intern must attend full-day courses in the summer prior to their intern year. Elementary (EC-6) Interns: courses run from the last week of May to the last week of July. Secondary (7-12) Interns: courses run from the last week of May to the first week in July.*

3. Interns must attend three full-day class sessions on the following dates: Saturday, July 9, 2022, late September-early Oct. date (TBA), and Friday, December 2, 2022.*

4. Interns must attend online class sessions from 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. once a week during the fall semester.*

5. The Intern must have an assigned mentor teacher in his/her content field who has at least 3 years of experience. The field supervisor will send 3 online feedback forms to the mentor over the course of the year.*

6. The intern will be formally observed by their ATP field supervisor three times in the fall and twice in the spring. The building principal is required to indicate receipt of all 5 observation summaries from the ATP supervisor via email.*

7. Principals will be asked to submit feedback on the intern’s progress. The principal agrees to fill out feedback forms (approximately mid to late October and/or January) to help gauge preparation and needed support for the candidate.*

The mentor teacher assigned to the ATP intern meets the required certification experience criteria. These criteria include: ALL boxes must be checked.*
- Has at least 3 years of teaching experience
- Accomplished educator as shown by student learning
- Mentor teacher is certified in the same certification category as the ATP Intern
Principal CONSENT: TEA code requires Austin College to provide a minimum of three formal observations during the first half of the internship and a minimum of two formal observations during the last half of the internship. The university supervisor needs access to observe lessons in person. I consent to the university supervisor having access.*
