Faculty Bio:
My interest for global politics began with watching the national evening news with my parents every night at the dinner table. This passion for knowing what was happening politically in other parts of the world continued, and by the time I reached college, studying political science felt like a natural fit. While there, I became enthralled with the academic and community life in which the professors took part, and I decided that I was interested in pursuing a PhD and this profession. It was also there that I began to appreciate the environment and opportunities a small, liberal arts college offered. Being a first-generation college student, I especially benefited from the close relationships I was able to develop with professors who helped guide me through my undergraduate studies and my application to graduate schools. I could not be more excited to have this position at Austin College now, because it allows me to be on the other side of the faculty-student relationships. I love getting to have the opportunity to work with students on developing their own frameworks for understanding politics, to help them with their research, and to see them grow as individuals during their time here. In addition, the entire community (faculty, staff, and students) is friendly, supportive, and welcoming—making AC feel like a family, and for this Wisconsin native, far away from her frozen-tundra home, that is really an amazing thing. Plus, living so close to Dallas & the alternative and indie rock concerts it hosts, isn’t a bad perk either.
