Faculty: Renee Countryman
Description: We will be traveling to Costa Rica to practice tuning into ourselves and into nature. Our trip will be similar to a full yoga retreat, with daily yoga practice, meditation, and self-reflection exercises. We will also devote an extensive amount of time to exploring the beauty of Costa Rica with a focus on bird watching. Costa Rica is home to more than 600 bird species and we will travel to distinct environments–the Pacific coast and the central cloud forest — to view them. Our lectures will be split between 1) learning about the benefits of yoga and meditation to our health and wellness and 2) understanding birds from their behavior to how our behavior impacts them. Students should be prepared for daily moderate to intense physical exertion, including the ability to walk 5-10 miles a day on rough terrain. Students will need yoga mats, straps, and binoculars for this course.
