This course reviews outbreaks, epidemics and pandemics dating back to the 1500s by an internationally renowned public health expert, an AC alum, who graduated from Harvard University and is currently involved in vaccine development and clinical trials worldwide. Some of the worst epidemics and pandemics in history have doomed whole civilizations and brought once powerful nations to their knees, killing millions. While these terrible disease outbreaks still threaten humanity, thanks to the advances in epidemiology, science and medicine we have learned to overcome the same dire consequences as our ancestors once faced. The emergence and spread of infectious diseases with pandemic potential have occurred regularly throughout history. COVID is not the first nor will it be the last! Learn about the 20 worst epidemics and pandemics in history, dating from prehistoric to modern times. Come join us to learn about each epidemic and pandemic and how they succumbed to science and medicine. Enjoy learning about outbreaks, epidemics and pandemics. Also gain an understanding to the involvement of the World Health Organization and the Pan American Health Organization.
