The Austin College community is saddened by the death of Senior Trustee Phillip Edward “Ted” Hudson ’59 of Austin, Texas on August 9, 2023, and extends sympathy to his wife Jody, and family. Ted worked in the technical field at Radian International, LLC from its beginning in 1969 until his retirement in 1995.
After having received Austin College’s Distinguished Alumnus award in 1975, Ted served on the Austin College Board of Trustees from 1989 to 2001. He chaired the Board’s Academic Affairs committee several years and remained a faithful supporter of Austin College through the years after his Board service.
The family will receive friends at a celebration of his life on Saturday, August 26 at 10 a.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, with a reception immediately following at The Headliners Club of Austin. Share a condolence.

Ted was born in Steubenville, Ohio, on December 11, 1937, and grew up in the Rio Grande Valley.
Ted attended Schreiner Institute and Austin College on football scholarships, where he studied chemistry, physics, and math. He went on to earn a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Baylor University.
Ted worked at Tracor before joining the founding team of the successful technical services and products company Radian International, LLC, which grew to have offices worldwide. He served the company with pride and dedication from its inception in 1969 until his retirement in 1995.
Ted’s work, hunting, and golfing buddies were very important in his life. He met the same close friends to play dominoes and golf and celebrate at dove cookouts for over 50 years. He was a loyal friend and mentor to many and a natural leader with an unparalleled capacity for hard work.
Ted was a strong and loving man, survived by his best friend and wife of more than 60 years, Jody; his children Phil Hudson and husband Boomer, Linnann Guest and husband Jason; and five beloved grandchildren, Parker, Spencer, Sophie, Emerson, and Kendall. He is also survived by his sister Janet Firley, his brothers Carl Hudson and partner Mark, Earl Hudson and wife Rita Gaye, and many nieces and nephews.
Ted was preceded in death by his mother and father, Wilma and Maurice, and his brothers Buzz and Jim.

Honorary Pallbearers are Bob Davis, Frank Fernandes, Jason Guest, Leigh Hayes, Carl Hudson, Earl Hudson, Phil Hudson, Boomer Hudson, David Jones, Tom Johnson, Erwin Kouba, Mace McCain, Don Orr and Mike Shorter.
In lieu of flowers, the family asked that Ted be remembered with memorial contributions to The Settlement Home for Children or the charity of your choice.
