This summer I went to Querétaro to conduct a rural field study in Social Anthropology. I stayed with a host family in Boxasní, Cadereyta. Boxasní is considered a “Magic town” which is a title coveted for helping primarily indigenous towns with tourism through their traditional handmade goods and history. With training from Professors of the UAQ (Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro), I learned how to record the town’s economic and political situations, map out the community, and interact with the community to learn and record the difficulties they’ve had as a “Pueblo Mágico.” These difficulties included the town’s water and legal problems, which I was able to observe with the town’s representative.
