Applicant agrees to do the following:
- Help with the inventory of existing institutional (faculty and student) strengths and interests regarding digital humanities
- Complete a progress report about their exploration of an area of interest in digital humanities by December 31, 2012.
- Participate as one of the writers of the larger grant for the digital humanities, especially as the grant is being drafted during AY 2012-2013.
- Organize one lunchtime dissemination session and one lecture or workshop by an outside speaker.
Applicant will receive a stipend in the amount of $2,100, representing compensation for three weeks work, upon completion of the progress report . Checks should be disbursed by the end of January, 2013.
Description of Area of Interest . In a memo of 250-500 words, you may wish to address some of the following topics. Be sure to consider the content of the original planning grant (for a copy, click here).
- Thoughts about how your area of interest in the digital humanities relates to enhanced student learning.
- What would be the learning outcomes for the students? How would technology enhance student learning?
- Would Austin College benefit by collaborating with another institution in a project of this type? Why? Do you have any suggestions about which institutions?
- How would these projects be archived and maintained in the future?
- Sample project(s) (either your own or those of others)
- Details about how you will educate yourself about your area of interest
- Possible topic for a lunchtime session; possible outside speakers for workshops/lectures
In our brainstorming sessions, the following were DH areas of interest for some colleagues. You description might include one or more of these topics. Feel free to suggest others.
- Wiki collaboratories (Students create interactive, hypertext sites of literary and primary source documents for secondary and post-secondary classroom)
- Mapping projects (Students analyze the multiple social, political, cultural, and historical components that shape the experiences of particular communities in particular locales by gathering, organizing, and distributing these layers of information in a digital format.)
- Interactive web journals 2.0
- Database creation and enhancement
- Digital storytelling
- Digital humanities and service learning
