Austin College presents the seventh Austin College Student Scholarship Conference March 21-23, 2019. The conference features student-faculty collaborative projects and independent projects, including research, intellectual scholarship, and creative works. Students involved represent many academic disciplines across campus.
The conference is sponsored by Austin College’s Robert and Joyce Johnson Center for Faculty Development and Excellence in Teaching, and CREATE, the Center for Research, Experiential, Artistic, and Transformative Education.
Events begin with the Elevator Speech Competition on March 21 in Wright Campus Center’s Pouch Club. Thursday is also opening night of Silent Sky, a theatre performance about the true story of Henrietta Leavitt, a woman in the 1900s working in the Harvard Observatory. Silent Sky begins at 7:30 p.m., March 21-23, in Ida Green Communication Center, Beardsley Arena Theatre. Admission is free with an Austin College ID, and $8 for general admission.
On Friday, March 22, student poster sessions and oral presentations begin at 1:15 p.m. and continue through the afternoon in Wright Campus Center in Mabee Hall and various meeting rooms.
An opening reception for the annul art exhibit that corresponds with ACSC is Friday, from 5:15 to 7:15 p.m. The exhibit features work by students Mary Cheadle, Savannah Flores, and William McCarthy along with all entries in the ACSC Book Cover Contest. The exhibit will remain until April 19.
A Star Party in IDEA Center, Adams Observatory, is 9 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Friday.
Student poster sessions begin again on Saturday, March 23, at 8 a.m. in Wright Campus Center, Mabee Hall. They are followed by oral presentations at 10 a.m. in various rooms in the WCC. The Honors Research Panel convenes from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Wright Campus Center, Living Room, followed by oral presentations continuing until 3:50 pm.
The Conference closes with a Student/Faculty Collaborative Music Recital in Craig Recital Hall at 4 p.m. and the final performance of Silent Sky. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend all events. See a detailed schedule.
