Austin College’s own Ron Kirk, Class of 1976, is well-known in Dallas, having served as its mayor from 1995 to 2001 and in several local leadership positions before and since. He’s also served in leadership positions for the State of Texas—as well as a stint in Washington, D.C., as United States Trade Representative. His name will get “bigger” June 4 when the Continental Bridge in Dallas is renamed the Ambassador Ronald Kirk Pedestrian Bridge. The ceremony takes place at 10 a.m. June 4 at the center of the 1930s Trinity River bridge that was converted into a pedestrian crossing a few years ago. The event, hosted by the City of Dallas, Trinity Trust, and Trinity Commons Foundation, is free and open to the public.
