For students looking to maximize their experience abroad, a direct exchange may be the right option. A direct exchange program gives students the opportunity to enroll in a foreign institution and experience local student life independent from a study abroad provider. Students apply directly to the institution, coordinate course selection, and arrange housing accommodations with the guidance of the Office of International Programs. A direct exchange program is recommendable for highly independent students with advanced skills in a foreign language who wish to immerse themselves in a different culture and are comfortable with navigating a new environment with limited assistance.

Application Process
Approved applicants for a Fall exchange must submit their UAQ requirements by March 31st.
Approved applicants for a Spring exchange must submit their UAQ requirements by September 30th.
The Direct Exchange Program application process requires students to submit materials to the Office of International Programs. Interested students should first speak with Dr. Julie Hempel or Dr. Patrick Duffey in the Spanish department to receive an endorsement, and then contact Cheryl Marcelo in the Office of International Programs to begin the application process.
